Short CV

Dr. Damian Borth is the Director of the Deep Learning Competence Center at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Kaiserslautern. Damian’s research focuses on large-scale machine learning to mine insights (trends, sentiment) from online media streams. Before this position he was a postdoctoral research fellow the ICSI/UC Berkeley, where he was involved in various initiatives sponsored by DARPA, IARPA, and big data efforts at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. His work has been awarded by the Best Paper Award at ACM ICMR 2012 and the McKinsey Business Technology Award 2011 and aims to support the AI4Good innitative. Damian received his PhD from the University of Kaiserslautern and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). He was also a visiting researcher at the Digital Video and Multimedia Lab at Columbia University in 2012.
