QUO VADIS 2016: Day 1 Wrap-Up

It's been a busy day and a great start for this year's QUO VADIS! If you've missed the first day of the conference, here's a short wrap-up for Monday!

A new location for Quo Vadis

The longest-standing German games conference is held at Station Berlin for the first time and... it's fantastic. The open floor concept was lauded by visitors as no closed doors bar attendees from walking around and taking it all in. Expo floor booths, Indie Expo, retro games area, lecture stages, everything merges into a unified conference experience unlike any other.

Session highlights

Highlights of Day 1 were numerous, ranging from topics as diverse as Pascal Luban's "Six Golden Rules of Game Design" to Heiko Klinge's "Games Journalism by the Numbers". Many lectures and talks were filled to the last seat, especially the main stage attractions like the 4pm panel, when industry veteran Jason della Rocca guided a premium set of panelists, Eva Gaspar (Abylight), Kate Edwards (IGDA), Christopher Kassulke (Handy-Games), Christopher Schmitz (Quantic Dreams), through an interesting discussion on the state of the industry as a whole.

The prize for the "Coolest Hat Worn by a Speaker" was won by Dominik Gotojuch of Robot Gentleman, who wore a very nice steampunky top hat.

Two mini-conferences were integrated in the main show: BIU's eSports Summit and the Tech Summit by media partner Golem.de. This greatly broadened the scope of QUO VADIS, bringing in new speakers from the eSports field and science.

Party until late!

The day ended with drinks and merriness: At the Amazon Appstore booth the Amazon team made a commitment to Munich (the city their German HQ is located at) and served cold Augustiner beer. Viennese developer Sproing chose the opportunity to celebrate their 15th anniversary with free green mojitos. And in the business center, QUO VADIS host Aruba Events held the official speaker reception where the most important contributors to a show like this, the speakers, panelists and moderators met for more partying and networking.
