Billy Khan, lead project programmer of the award-winning DOOM and lead engine programmer of idTech 6, talks about the motivation to provide best-in-class visuals at 60 FPS on all platforms for the reboot of the DOOM franchise. Billy’s presentation covers the purpose-built new features that were required for DOOM, including the gore system, the transition from OpenGL to Vulkan, material customization, and the adoption of dynamic lighting in idTech6.
